Ethical player at the sharpest price

Let's talk certificates! In the world of gold and silver, there are several internationally recognized certificates. Two quality certificates stand out: the LMBA (London Bullion Market Association) and the RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council) certificates. What is the difference between the two? And how do you obtain such a certification? We'd like to give it to you in a handy overview.

LMBA certificate for purity and quality

The London LMBA certificate is an internationally recognized quality label for gold and silver bars. This certificate guarantees the quality, purity and physical appearance of gold or silver. To obtain this recognition, refineries must meet strict requirements.

Because of the strict standards, you know that the quality of gold and silver is assured with the LMBA certificate. The strict specifications have the advantage of creating confidence among investors and customers.

Note that for many refineries, this certificate is difficult to achieve. To claim this certificate, the size of the company plays a major role. Refineries must refine a minimum of 10 tons of gold and 50 tons of silver for this certification. These are high volumes, so smaller players have less claim to it.

RJC certificate for social responsibility

Whereas the LMBA certificate focuses only on gold and silver, the internationally recognized RJC certificate goes broader. It is the seal of quality for responsible business practices throughout the jewelry industry. By this we mean both precious metal mining, refining and jewelry production.

This certificate sets standards around human rights, environment, ethical business practices and integrity for companies in the jewelry industry.

Sustainability is important in the gold and silver industry. Both are finite resources in often fragile ecosystems. It is therefore incredibly important to generate minimal environmental impact. This means acting with respect for water resources, managing waste and minimizing emissions.

In addition, the social aspect plays an important role for this certificate. For RJC, making a positive contribution to the communities in which you operate is an absolute prerequisite. Think about respecting human rights, ensuring the health and safety of your employees and supporting local communities. In short: it is the standard for ethically refined bullion.
